(HT)

Emraan Hashmi, who gained popularity for kissing on the big screen and doing more than his share of grey roles, is now attempting something different in his next venture. For Ghanchakkar, his upcoming film with UTV Motion Pictures, he will shoot an action scene inside a moving local train in Mumbai. Emraan Hashmi
A source reveals, "Emraan's character is of a master safecracker and this sequence will be part of a crucial scene. This is a first for Emraan, in terms of shooting a big action scene in a train. He's excited about it, as he's never done one before. The scene has some cool stunts."
The filmmakers have sought special permission from Western Railways for the night shoot, which will take place sometime next month. "The next schedule of the film has Emraan shooting solo. That is the time in which the scene will be shot. The train will go from Borivali to Andheri, and he will be seen fighting gangsters inside a moving train. It will be tough and the train will add a new dimension to the scene."
Manish Hariprasad, creative director, Studios Disney UTV, says, "Yes, we are doing some action sequences in a train for Ghanchakkar. It is an essential scene in the movie which is a quirky thriller."
Directed by Rajkumar Gupta, Ghanchakkar also stars Vidya Balan. The film is scheduled to release on June 21.

Emraan Hashmi happy to reunite with Vidya Balan in Ghanchakkar

(DNA)

After working together in blockbuster movie The Dirty Picture, actor Emraan Hashmi is excited to team up with Vidya Balan again because he feels it is always better to work with familiar faces.
The duo will be seen in No One Killed Jessica famed director Raj Kumar Gupta's Ghanchakkar. The movie is almost finished and will release in 2013.
"The film is a very unique combination as there is comedy, suspense as well as thrills. It is great to be reuniting with Vidya (Balan) after The Dirty Picture. It was back to being with someone who is familiar to you," Emraan told PTI.
After releasing four films this year - Jannat 2Shanghai, Raaz 3 and Rush- Emraan is on a roll as he has movies like Vishal Bharadwaj's Ek Thi Daayan, Karan Johar's Unglee for next year.
Produced by Johar, Unglee is directed by Rensil D'Silva (of Kurbaan fame) and Emraan says it is fun working with a new director as he brings in new ideas and methodology of working.
"It is nice to be working on a film like 'Unglee'. Rensil is a very sorted director and what impresses me most is that he is very intelligent as well. It is always good to be working with new people as they come up with fresh ideas. Also, they bring to fore new things about your own self and acting prowess; it is a new discovery altogether," he added.
The film also stars Sanjay Dutt, Randeep Hooda, Kangana Ranaut and Neha Dhupia.
Emraan's Ek Thi Daayan stars three leading ladies - Konkona Sen Sharma, Kalki Koechlin and Huma Qureshi - alongside him.
The actor says the script of the film is very interesting and though it has a supernatural angle it is not a horror movie.
"Yes, there are three women in Ek Thi Daayan but then the film is in a different space. There is a supernatural angle to it but the film is completely different when compared to other horror films. It is a very interesting script and we are aiming for an April release," he added.
Emraan's last release Rush didn't do well at the box office but the actor does not seem to mind that and says he did the movie for emotional reasons.
"I had to stick to the film since it was director Shamim Desai's dying wish; he wanted his film to release. I understand that in one's career there are highs and lows but certain decisions are taken keeping emotions and sentiments in mind instead of commercial gains.
"I did my job of ensuring a good release for it and I am happy that it saw good visibility till its release. I am sure Shamim, wherever he is, would be happy," he said.
The actor has also signed another Johar movie, which will reportedly have Deepika Padukone opposite him.
"I can't say much about it because Karan would be making the final announcement around my co-stars in the film," Emraan said.
Besides Bollywood, Emraan has also signed a Hollywood movie with Oscar-winning director Danis Tanovic (of No Man's Land fame).

Emraan has tremendous clout at the BO: Karan Johar

(TOI)

Karan Johar and Ekta Kapoor have started work on their next project - a love-hate story, as Karan puts it. The filmmaker says that he has always wanted to work with Ekta and this was the best script to start off with. "Ekta and I had been deliberating for a while to work together, but we were sure we wanted to work on something different and edgy. This script was perfect. I'd call it a love-hate story. In fact, it is one of the most interesting scripts I've read in recent times. Both the protagonists are strong characters and have a great opportunity to perform."

Emraan Hashmi was the unanimous choice for the male protagonist, says Karan. "Emraan is a terrific actor and has tremendous clout at the box office. He plays the protagonist and the antagonist. This film will see him play a character that is very different from his previous roles. But having said that, his fan base will be totally satisfied with him as the chemistry that the lead actors share is great, romantically as well as sexually." Though the female lead is yet to be finalised, Karan reveals that it will be an established actor and not a fresh face.

This joint venture of Dharma Productions and Balaji Motion Pictures, directed by newcomer Akshay Roy, doesn't have a title as yet. But Karan reveals that he is entrusting Ekta the responsibility of coming up with a title.

Hush up! Or Ekta will sue you !

(Mumbai Mirror)

The success of any suspense thriller depends a lot on how well the crew manages to keep its key plot point or character under wraps. And the recent box-office response to Talaash, a thriller that may have suffered after word about its supernatural elements went viral on the internet, was an eye opener for filmmakers dealing with this genre.

Pre-empting any such damaging whisper campaign, Ekta Kapoor, who is co-producing Ek Thi Daayan (starring Huma Qureshi and Emraan Hashmi) with Vishal Bhardwaj, has introduced a confidentiality clause in her contract that forbids her cast and crew from sharing or ‘leaking’ any information pertaining to the identity of the ‘daayan’ in the film. And if any crewmember were found guilty, they would be sued for the damages.

Evidently, there is a lot riding on this character. While Non-disclosure Agreements are fairly common in the industry, this would be the first time a production house has sought to protect a plot or character from spoilsports. The film’s spokesperson confirmed the development and said it was Ekta’s idea, seconded by her senior team members.

According to a source close to the producer, her decision was also brought about by the ‘proliferation of social networking sites’ and the damage they cause to the film by encouraging users to share vital information about the plot or characters online and elsewhere. Ekta’s decision has been welcomed by a large section of the film fraternity.

In fact, Vishesh Films, which has been making suspense thrillers is already exploring the possibility of including such a clause for their next film Murder 3. “It won’t be a bad idea, ” said Mahesh Bhatt, the head honcho of the production house and added, “What Ekta has done would definitely add to the moral responsibility of the cast and crew. The legal consequences could act as a deterrent.” To protect her film’s USP, Ekta and her director Kannan Iyer have also decided to shoot the climax at the end of the schedule, closer to its April release date.

“This is also a departure from the trend, since most filmmakers shoot the critical shots way beforehand,” says a source close to the film, adding, “And that is how crucial information about the film often makes its way from the set to the social networking sites. Ekta wanted to protect her film from all possible such attacks.” But director Sujoy Ghosh, who managed to keep the suspense around his film Kahaani alive till its release, was of a different opinion. “I agree there are people who are playing spoilsport, I don’t think the cast and crew of a film leaks out vital information. It is as much as their film as a producer’s,” he told us.

Kahaani was shown to quite a few people before its release. And yet, the climax, when it came, left everyone stunned . “It is simply because they liked the film. If a film is good, the audience wants it to be seen. I still see Sixth Sense and Usual Suspect since I like the content,” Ghosh said.

Emraan Hashmi is the first priority for Karan Johar and Ekta Kapoor

Ever since Karan Johar and Ekta Kapoor have teamed up with Emraan Hashmi for a film, they have been busy scouting for a leading lady. Initially, reports had suggested that Kareena Kapoor was offered the role, but then she apparently turned it down. Then, for some time, Deepika Padukone had been finalised for the part. Now, we're told that the makers are yet to confirm any actor.
The reason Ekta and Karan are finding it so hard to settle on a name is because they have a strict condition for any actress they approach for this film - she will have to adjust her dates to match Emraan's. The film will be directed by Karan Johar's former assistant director, Akshay Roy.
An industry insider reveals, "It's a mass-oriented film, and Karan and Ekta consider Emraan their trump card. He fits the role perfectly, so they don't want to take any chances when it comes to the casting, which is why they are in no rush to pick the female lead."
The fact that the schedules of most A-list actresses - Deepika, Kareena, Katrina Kaif and Priyanka Chopra - are packed next year also seems to be adding to the delay. "Ekta and Karan want to cast a big name opposite Emraan," adds the insider. As of now, the film is expected to go on the floors by midnext year.
Emraan, meanwhile, has reiterated his commitment to this project by turning down two big offers. The insider claims, "The makers don't want to jeopardise his dates because it would be very unethical on their part. He is a good actor and Ekta is very fond of him."
When contacted, Ekta confirms the story, saying, "Yes, we're going to take Emraan's dates into consideration first, at the time of signing the female lead

Why Emraan Hashmi needed convincing for Ek Thi Daayan

(Mid Day)

Director Kannan Iyer had to convince actor Emraan Hashmi about the practice of black magic and evil eye in Mumbai when he was approached with the script of Ek Thi Daayan that deals with witchcraft.

Emraan Hashmi was skeptical about the real-time relevance of black magic.

In fact, the director had to accompany Emraan to his own apartment complex to point out evidence that indicated the rampant evil practice.

Mr Iyer said: "We often don't pay attention to our immediate surroundings. But there are so many groups in our country that believe in these cults and they leave a certain mark in certain places. These signs and shapes have significance that is best known to them. I showed Emraan strange symbols and he was convinced."

Vishal takes charge of Emraan’s love song !

(TOI)

Anxious about his most sensuous composition ever, the filmmaker-composer will choreograph a song for Ek Thi Daayan, which is being directed by a debutant

Vishal Bhardwaj is not the kind of producer who interferes with his directors, no matter how wet behind the ears they are. However, in the case ofEk Thi Daayan, a super-natural thriller, he is willing to make an exception. The filmmaker-composer will make his debut as a choreographer for a sensuous song in the film with Emraan Hashmi and Huma Qureshi

The song has been set to music by Bhardwaj and has lyrics by Gulzar. Debutant director Kannan Iyer seems only too happy to step aside for his producer-composer: "This is one of Vishal Bhardwaj's most sensuous compositions ever. And being as involved as he is with his music, he wanted to choreograph the song himself. After all, he understand the nuances of this song better than any one else." There seems to be another reason why Bhardwaj decided to literally call the shots for this song sequence - it stars Emraan. And given his romantic image and track record with love songs, no one in the team wanted to take chances. And despite his busy schedule - he is wrapping up Matru Ki Bijli- Bhardwaj has promised to wield the mega phone over the next couple of days for Ek Thi Daayan. As for Emraan, this would be his second super-natural thriller after Raaz3. "Emraan is happy with the decision; he does not want to let go of the momentum," says a source close to the developments.
